Most beautiful view points on Bonaire

You are lucky. Bonaire offers an incredible number of beautiful viewpoints that let your jaw drop instantly. Aside from having the best oceanfront lunch or dinner at Breeze ‘n Bites’ restaurant, you might want to explore our personal top 5 favourite, most beautiful view points on Bonaire island.

1.    Lac Bay

Don’t miss Lac Bay if you love windsurfing, snorkelling, and scuba diving (ánd also if you don’t). Admire the beautiful views of the lake, which – due to the shallow waters and lush mangroves – offer a turquoise picture perfect capture of the Caribbean.

Just a short drive from Kralendijk, a beautiful place to relax your body and mind, and treat your senses, and maybe have some fun windsurfing or learning to-,  scuba dive or snorkel.

To get to Lac Bay from Kralendijk, head east via Kaya International, passing Flamingo International Airport. Head for Kaya Korona and follow signs toward Sorobon Beach. Continue on Kaminda Sorobon for a short drive, and you’ll reach Lac Bay in about 15–20 minutes.

2.    Klein Bonaire

Literally Small Bonaire in Dutch, this picture perfect, serene, uninhabited island can be easily reached from Kralendijk on Bonaire by water taxi or boat tour. This ride takes around 20-25 minutes before you can conquer the beautiful white sand on this tiny island.

Klein Bonaire is known for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant coral reefs. It’s one of the go-to places for snorkelers and divers, offering easy access to stunning underwater life, including sea turtles and colourful fish.

If you enjoy nature, tranquillity, and water activities, visiting Klein Bonaire is a must for a peaceful escape. Klein Bonaire is paradise for those looking to enjoy the best ocean views, snorkel spots, dive vistas, and who want to explore an uninhabited Caribbean isla bonita.

Combine your visit to Klein Bonaire with a lunch or dinner with a view.

3.    Gotomeer

The Gotolake is a saltwater lagoon in the northwestern part of the island. It is one of the best spots to admire its local residents, beautiful flamingo’s, who use this part of the island as a breeding spot. If you are lucky, you can see them leave for their journey to Venezuela around sunset time. Fun fact: they will be back on Bonaire once their bellies are fed by the rich(er) Venezuelan soil, and when the sun rises again on Bonaire.

Apart from this, the saltwater lagoon is surrounded by rugged hills and lush vegetation, creating a stunning contrast to the quite arid landscape. A real go to place if you love nature and want to get a little off the beaten track.

4.    Toeristen Route

The Tourist Route, also known as the Queen’s Highway, is a 6 kilometre long highway along the west coast of the island. Locals will tell you it might not be the quickest route to get you to the village of Rincon, but it is definitely the most scenic one. Why would you visit Rincon? Maybe only for this beautiful route, though the village offers you a lot of Bonaire history, as it’s the oldest village of all of the Netherlands Antilles.

So, what’s the Tourist Route like? The route starts in Kralendijk and takes you north along the scenic coastal road, passing the flamingo-filled Gotomeer Lagoon (two flies in one hit: combine the route with a visit to the Gotomeer!). Continue your journey inland to the historic town of Rincon which offers a glimpse into the island’s rich culture. You can include a detour through Washington Slagbaai National Park, known for its stunning landscapes and wildlife. The route loops back south, passing the iconic salt flats and white slave huts before returning to Kralendijk.

5.    Brandaris view point

For the hikers among us: anyone craving to visit the highest point of Bonaire? The trail begins with a gradual ascent through rocky terrain dotted with cacti, divi-divi trees, and diverse wildlife like iguanas and parrots. As you climb higher, the path becomes steeper and more rugged, requiring some scrambling over boulders – trust us, it’s worth the effort.

Once at the top of the 241-metre (791 ft) Brandaris Peak, you will be welcomed by panoramic views of Bonaire’s wild coastline, the Caribbean Sea, and – on clear days – even the coast of the South American country of Venezuela. Hiking the Brandaris is moderately challenging, but the breathtaking scenery and sense of accomplishment make it an unforgettable experience.
